Track 08Applied GxP SkillsLocked by prerequisiteOptional

Prompt Engineering for GxP

Treat the prompt as a controlled input: constructed deliberately, constrained against fabrication, verified against source and recorded where the output is used in regulated work.

Locked by prerequisite

This track opens once its prerequisites are complete. Prerequisites are sequenced deliberately: each one supplies a competency this track assumes you already hold.

  • Track 01 — AI Fundamentals
  • Track 02 — AI Governance & Regulatory Expectations
  • Track 03 — Approved AI Systems
  • Track 04 — Data Privacy & Confidentiality

Orientation

Why this matters

In a GxP setting the prompt is part of the method. An undocumented prompt makes an output irreproducible, and an unconstrained prompt invites the model to fill gaps with plausible invention.

What you will be able to do (4)

  • Construct prompts that specify role, source, task, constraints and output format
  • Constrain a prompt so that the model declines rather than fabricates
  • Verify output against the supplied source and reject unsupported statements
  • Record prompts and outputs so that regulated work is reproducible

Aligned with (4)

ALCOA+ — attributable, original, accurate recordsEU GMP Annex 11 — data input controls21 CFR Part 11 — record integrityGAMP 5 (2nd edition) — critical thinking applied to inputs

Maps to published expectations. Competency demonstrated through assessment.

Regulatory alignment indicates that curriculum topics map to published regulatory expectations. It does not constitute agency approval, certification, legal advice or a determination of organizational compliance.

ALCOA+ — attributable, original, accurate records

Regulatory guidanceUnited Kingdom GxP
MHRA GxP Data Integrity Guidance and Definitions
Relevant provisions
Data governance and ALCOA+ expectations across the data lifecycle
Status and date
March 2018; page updated September 2021. Current MHRA resource; OECD guidance takes precedence for UK GLP as stated by MHRA.
Why it maps
Supports the track's stated mapping to ALCOA+ — attributable, original, accurate records without transferring duties beyond the source's scope.
Applicability limit
Used for data-governance and inspection expectations. Its scope and MHRA's stated GLP qualification must be preserved.

Regulatory guidancePIC/S participating authorities
PIC/S PI 041-1 — Good Practices for Data Management and Integrity
Relevant provisions
Data governance, lifecycle controls, audit trails and organisational responsibility
Status and date
Adopted 1 June 2021. Guidance for regulated GMP/GDP environments; legal effect follows national implementation.
Why it maps
Supports the track's stated mapping to ALCOA+ — attributable, original, accurate records without transferring duties beyond the source's scope.
Applicability limit
Inspection-oriented guidance. It supports, but does not replace, the binding requirements of the applicable jurisdiction.

EU GMP Annex 11 — data input controls

GMP requirementEuropean Union GMP
EudraLex Volume 4, Annex 11 — Computerised Systems
Relevant provisions
Sections 1, 4, 7–9, 11–13 and 16–17
Status and date
Revision January 2011. Current Annex 11; came into operation 30 June 2011.
Why it maps
Supports the track's stated mapping to EU GMP Annex 11 — data input controls without transferring duties beyond the source's scope.
Applicability limit
Applies to computerised systems used as part of GMP-regulated activities. Applicability follows the regulated process and intended use.

21 CFR Part 11 — record integrity

Binding lawUnited States
21 CFR Part 11 — Electronic Records; Electronic Signatures
Relevant provisions
§§ 11.10, 11.30, 11.50, 11.70 and 11.100–11.300
Status and date
Current electronic Code of Federal Regulations. Applies when predicate-rule records are maintained or submitted electronically and Part 11 scope is met.
Why it maps
Supports the track's stated mapping to 21 CFR Part 11 — record integrity without transferring duties beyond the source's scope.
Applicability limit
Part 11 does not make every electronic output a regulated record. Predicate rules and record use determine applicability.

GAMP 5 (2nd edition) — critical thinking applied to inputs

Industry guidanceInternational industry practice
ISPE GAMP 5 — A Risk-Based Approach to Compliant GxP Computerized Systems, 2nd ed.
Relevant provisions
Lifecycle, intended use, critical thinking, supplier involvement and risk-based assurance
Status and date
July 2022. Non-binding unless adopted by an organisation, contract or authority.
Why it maps
Supplies a recognised management or assurance practice; it is identified as non-binding unless separately adopted.
Applicability limit

Credential

GxP Prompting Practitioner Badge

Duration

2–3 hours

Audience

  • Anyone who uses generative AI to produce or support regulated content
  • Medical writers, scientists, analysts and quality professionals
  • Reviewers who must assess AI-assisted output

Prerequisites

  • Track 01
  • Track 02
  • Track 03
  • Track 04

Behaviours practised (3)

ApplyVerifyDocument
A medical writer asks a general model to 'summarise the safety findings for this compound'. The model produces a fluent summary citing three studies. Two exist. One does not. Nothing in the prompt told the model to use only supplied sources, and nothing in the process required the citations to be checked.

Badge requirements (5)

  1. Complete all three lessons and their knowledge checks
  2. Achieve at least 80% across the final badge assessment
  3. Answer every safety-critical question correctly
  4. Write a controlled prompt containing all five components
  5. Identify every unsupported statement in the detection exercise

Final badge assessment

GxP Prompting Practitioner Badge

  • Prompt construction

Multiple choice and select all that applySafety-critical

Assess prompts for the five components and select the most verifiable formulation.

  • Unsupported statement detection

    Identify the unsupported statementSafety-critical

Identify unsupported statements across three AI-drafted extracts with sources supplied.

  • Documentation workflow

    Ordering workflow steps

Order the steps for producing and recording an AI-assisted regulated output.

  • Practical exercise — controlled prompt and record
